Why we made it
The treat people kept asking for
When RJ’s discontinued Jaffas in 2025, a familiar part of going to the movies disappeared from New Zealand shelves. Customers at Deluxe Cinemas and Town Hall Cinemas kept asking for them.
Jeremy Stewart grew up catching the bus into town for the Regent, Savoy, Avon and Westend. He remembers the queues, the excitement of the foyer and the rush to the candy bar at intermission. He approached Rainbow Confectionery in Oamaru to supply orange coated chocolate. We call it Intermission Treats.
We’re bringing that cinema ritual back through a collection that celebrates the Christchurch picture houses so many of us grew up with.
The buildings are gone. The stories are still here.
The Regent’s stars overhead. School-holiday queues at the Savoy. The Avon’s chrome-railed stairs. Treats sold at interval at the Westend. Each box features archive photographs of one cinema, giving you something to keep long after the last chocolate is gone.

The back of the Collector’s Box maps the four cinemas in central Christchurch. Scan the packaging to explore the website’s cinema histories, archive photographs and timeline. Sit down with the person you’ve given it to and see which names, places and films they remember.
